Why can’t I get IPv6 on Minecraft?
This bug/flaw is by design. The Minecraft launcher disables IPv6 (by setting “java.net.preferIPv4Stack” to true). The only workarounds for this are to use a 3rd party launcher or to modify the official one. ————————————————————————
Is it possible to host a server on a IPv6 IP?
As each machine comes with 32 IPv6’s I am wondering is it possible to host a server on a IPv6 ip? I would then re-route it with domain. Thanks in advance! I’d like to know this too, you could try pasting the IPv6 address in the ip= line of the server.properties and then use an AAAA record to point to the IPv6 address.
Is it possible to play multiplayer with an IPv6 address?
Myself and a few of my players use IPv6 just fine to connect. You can try it yourself by going to multiplayer and connecting to: minecraftv6.digiex.net. Note: That domain won’t give out a IPv4 address, so your DNS provider must be able to supply AAAA records (IPv6) and you must have a working IPv6 Address.
What is IPv6 and how does it work?
For most who do not know, IPv6 is the successor to the overloaded IPv4 Internet protocol. IPv4 in a nutshell is recognized as the 4 dotted decimal addresses you type to join a minecraft server, ex:188.8.131.52. The problem with this protocol is that the unique amount of addresses for IPv4 stop at around 4,294,967,296 unique addresses.
