What new in the Minecraft The Wild update

There are all sorts of new goodies coming to the game with Minecraft The Wild update, including several fresh biomes to explore from lush Mangrove swamps to creepy underground cities. New types of blocks will open up extra crafting and building options, while additional animals provide more wildlife to populate your worlds.

New Minecraft Deep Dark Biome

To kick off our round up of Minecraft The Wild update, we’re going deeper underground to look at the Deep Dark Biome. Down there you’ll find ancient cities to explore, which are definitely eerie and have lots of secrets hiding in the shadows. Be brave and adventure into the darkness, as there is unique loot to be found there.

Minecraft Sculk Block

In the shadowy world of the Deep Dark you’ll find a new material called Sculk, along with the Sculk Catalyst block that causes more Sculk to form when mobs are killed nearby. There’s also the Sculk Shrieker block, which gives off an eerie scream when activated that causes a pulsating darkness to descend on the area.

Minecraft Wardens

However, the most terrifying thing about this new area of Minecraft 1.19 is the presence of Wardens, who are giant mobs that emerge from the ground. You can try to sneak past them in the darkness once they appear, but they have a keen sense of smell and will sniff you out if you get too close.

Minecraft Mangroves

Back overground there are several more biomes to explore in Minecraft The Wild update, including a Birch forest and a swamp filled with Mangrove trees. The Mangroves can grow in water, with their roots forming as blocks that can spread out to create passageways underneath, and chopping them down will give you a new Mangrove wood type.

Minecraft Mud blocks and Clay blocks

The swamp also presents new block types, as you can add water to Dirt blocks to create Mud blocks, and by placing a Mud block on top of a Dripstone you can eventually drain it of moisture to create a Clay block. You’ll also be able to craft Mud Bricks, to give your buildings a fresh look.

World generation

A new feature found uncommonly underground (can rarely appear exposed to the surface close to sea level).

Technical

Added two new variables to the ‘biomes_client.json’ file: “remove_all_prior_fog” and “inherit_from_prior_fog”, which control fog merging and/or inheritance.

Experimental

These features are locked behind the experimental toggle, which can be accessed by enabling “Upcoming Creator Features” and “Enable GameTest Framework”.

Items

Changed the texture of the jungle door item to reflect the block texture in the Texture Update.

Non-mob entities

Changed the back texture to reflect the texture of the planks in the Texture Update.

Gameplay

Added a warning message when attempting to place blocks at the minimum height limit.
